8-5-21 Zoom Club Meeting [recording]
The bell was rung at 12:05 p.m. by Stu Sammis. Crosby, Stills and Nash provided "My Country 'Tis of Thee", followed by the invocation by Dick Puccio
The recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance was followed by the recitation of the Four Way Test.
Announcements
- Stu Sammis listed the August birthday members and those with August anniversaries identified themselves, along with the number of years they'd been married.
- Bill Boland updated the club on the Cherry Blossom Trail. He said that the Project’s architect had forwarded the Project design to Mark Rykman, the City Manager, on Monday, August 3, 2021; and planting is scheduled to start in the third week of September. Stuart said he will be organizing 4-person teams to plant the 40 trees and 30 bushes that will constitute the Project. Other organizations will also be participating in the planting festivities [work]. Bill Boland is preparing a media splash concerning the Project.
Community Service / Opportunities:
- The next one currently scheduled will be at the Salvation Army -- the Shepherd's Table event at the end of this month. We'll be looking for for some cooking! [at home, to be dropped off at Salvation Army for the event]. More to come.
Program [included in zoom recording]: Stuart Sammis and Jeff Ugoretz led a discussion of where the Club is heading in the next 3-4 years. Stuart asked Dale Wexell to summarize changes to the Club’s By-Laws, which were approved at a Board meeting on the previous Monday. Dale said that the Club membership must approve the new By-Laws, and they will be submitted to the members in the next week or two. Dale said that the most significant changes involved committee assignments and responsibilities.For example, the Strategic Planning Committee’s role will be assumed by the Executive Committee; the Treasurer’s duties will be re-defined to reflect their importance to the Club; and each member will be asked to serve on at least one committee. Stuart thanked the Governance Committee for its work in re-writing the By-Laws, and he thanked Andy Rochester for planning how computers can take on much of the work routinely performed by individuals.
