United Way of the Southern Tier invites the community to help meet the basic needs of local children by donating items to the 2026 Back-to-School Toiletries Drive.
Nearly 20% of children in Chemung and Steuben counties live in poverty. Families that receive government benefits such as SNAP or WIC cannot use that assistance to purchase essential hygiene items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, deodorant, and more.
You can help children in our area by donating the following through Saturday, September 12: •Toothbrushes • Toothpaste • Shampoo & conditioner or 2-in-1 • Bar soap or body wash • Deodorant • Feminine hygiene products • Dental floss • Lip balm • Hand cream • Combs/brushes/picks • Small packets of tissues • Small bottles of hand sanitizer
Items can be purchased locally and dropped off at locations across the community, or you can use thisAmazon wish list to purchase items that will be shipped directly to United Way.
Today's meeting features two of our Youth Services programs, RYLA and High School Learning Center. President Pauline Emery, opened the meeting and we celebrated our August birthdays. Lots of news and upcoming events. Two great presentations from RYLA students on their experience at the RYLA event.
Several Corning Rotary members and Interact students joined the Friends of the Chemung River Watershed for a cleanup on Saturday 7-25-26. It was a perfect day; although it started cool, the work warmed everyone up.
Corning Rotary Yumiko Akiba shared that several of the Corning Rotary Interact students came, as well as Rotarians (Pauline Emery, Mayu, Yumiko) to assist the FCR members. Among the riverside gatherings: “trash, 3 tires, tent, broken furniture, and many more items. Everybody worked really hard.”
Our new Corning Rotary President, Pauline Emery, opened the first meeting of our new year on July 9th. It's been a busy time! Lots of news and upcoming events. And - special recognition for members that place Service Above Self. And — our newest member is introduced to the club!

Corning Rotarians worked with Ready, Set, Grow! on Saturday 6-27-26 to distribute a mountain of mulch [there was much mulch!!]. Because of the great turnout, the job took only an hour. The kids that were waiting to play were on the playground just as soon as it was finished 😀.
Thank you to one of our newest Rotarians, Darro Snyder II with other members of our Corning Rotary Club: Stacy, Pauline and our Rotarian Head Garner, Stu 🪴
Our Annual Changeover Picnic comes each year at the end of June – and is the “changing of the gavel” for Corning Rotary; our previous President [Jen Batzing] retires and we introduce our new President [Pauline Emery]. Our meeting also featured one of our Corning Rotary Scholarship winners, two Paul Harris recognitions, and the induction of 5 new members to our Club, and more! Thank you to Boomers Burrito Bar for a delightful buffet meal!
