CORNING, NY — In celebration of Earth Day, the Corning Rotary Club joined forces with the Friends of the Chemung River Watershed (FCRW) for a morning of hands-on environmental stewardship. The cleanup, held Saturday, April 12, focused on the Chemung River between the Benjamin Patterson and Bridge Street bridges.
Despite cool temperatures in the low 40s and a light drizzle, spirits remained high. Volunteers, including Rotarians, FCRW members, and local students, worked together to remove litter from the riverbank — ultimately collecting 18 bags of trash.
Special thanks go to Caitlan McConnel of FCRW and Yumiko Akiba of Corning Rotary, who co-organized the event. And a heartfelt shout-out to the students who participated. Your energy and commitment made a real difference.
