Next Club Meeting: October 14  [Zoom]
Program: Presentation on "How to Speak Like a Leader" then discussion and voting on the proposed new by-laws. It's very important to attend our Zoom or in-person meeting for the bylaws vote.
 
We continued to host in-person meetings at the Radisson.
  • Please order using the link provided on our Rotary Home Page ASAP, as the selections need to be made a week ahead of time; however, they are giving us some leeway this time.
  • The online ordering system [labelled PayPal] lets you use  your Visa/Mastercard.  
  • Andy has included a lunch choice "if you want to attend but not order food". This helps the hotel have enough space for us!
  • Ask Andy if you have any issues with this and he will make sure you get the meal you want and you can pay next Thursday.  If you order through Andy,  please bring cash to pay for your meal.
Guests: Stacy Ward introduced Morgan Kemp, joining virtually. Morgan is a 2008 Corning East grad, and received her MA in Accounting from Alfred University. She is a Marine Corp veteran and owns Morgan Kemp Accounting. Morgan is interested in becoming a Rotarian and participating in our community service opportunities!

  • A big Thank You! to Stu Sammis for organizing the team that worked on the Wine Glass Marathon.  At zero-dark-thirty, volunteers Andy Rochester, Bobby O'Brien, Ernie Danforth, Jim webb, John Brown, Laura Matson, Paul Smith, Rick Davis, Steve Brusie, Stu Sammis, Tom O'Brien and Stacy Ward laid out the route for the runners to follow for the last third of the race.
  • Wendy Winnett promoted her birthday challenge to raise funds for the Rotary Foundation.  Watch your email for more info!
  • Dick Pope put in an appearance  -- his first at a meeting in about two years -- and gave an update on his doing for that time of absence.
  • EVENT RESCHEDULED to 10-28-21:  lunch meeting at the Radisson with a Zoom visit from District Governor, Janet Tenreiro. 
Today's Program: 
     Paula Smith introduced our speakers for the day, Joyce Wasserman and her colleague Jeff Dorian.  They spoke on solving the world's climate change problems and used an interactive program known as En-ROADS. Here's the video. (https://www.climateinteractive.org/tools/en-roads)
 
"En-ROADS is a transparent, freely-available policy simulation model that gives everyone the chance to design their own scenarios to limit future global warming.  You can try your own experiments and assumptions, and get immediate feedback on the likely impacts. The simulation, developed by Climate Interactive, Ventana Systems, and MIT Sloan, runs on an ordinary laptop in a fraction of a second, is available online, offers an intuitive interface, has been carefully grounded in the best available science, and has been calibrated against a wide range of existing integrated assessment, climate and energy models."
 
It is well worth your time to watch the video from today's meeting.  From Jeff Dorian: "The single most important thing we can all do to advocate for climate mitigation is to talk about it.  Not an easy thing to do as it has been so divisive.  Thanks for the opportunity to do just that."
