The club met for lunch at noon at the Corning Radisson soon to be DoubleTree Hotel. President Stu called the meeting to order at 12:05 pm with the ringing of the bell.
Almost immediately the meeting fell into disorder as Stacy Ward arrived. Ted Goldwyn took the podium to make a presentation. Stacy was supposed to make a presentation on membership, but it turns out that was simply a ruse to get Stacy to the meeting. Ted read through a litany of reasons why Stacy deserves to be the latest Paul Harris Fellow of the Corning, New York Rotary Club. A surprise attendee was Stacy’s brother, who joined via Zoom to congratulate his sister. From all of us, congratulations, Stacy. Well deserved.

When the meeting resumed, the club sang My Country ‘Tis of Thee and recited of the pledge of allegiance. Gil Sweet then delivered the invocation, a prayer for peace.
Club Service: Gil did double duty as he served as photographer as well as delivering the invocation. Ernie Danforth was the Cogs editor.
Guests: As well as Stacy’s brother, Les hosted Dr. William Mullaney, President of SUNY Corning Community College, and Ted Goldwyn hosted three Interact students including his daughter, Neila and a friend of Neila’s. We were also joined by several members of Stacy’s family and friends.
Announcements: Stu pointed out that there were flyers on each table related to the Ground Hogs Day dinner that will take place on Thursday, Feb 2nd at the American Legion Hall in South Corning. He reminded members that they are expected to purchase at least 2 tickets and help with the dinner, if possible. You can sign up through ClubRunner here.

After the program, Stu reminded everyone that next week’s meeting will be a social from 5-7 at Carey’s Brew House and two weeks away is the Ground Hog Day dinner.
Ernie noted that the Spelling Bee is scheduled for March 11th at the Corning Painted Post Middle School. We have 41 schools registered, approximately 80 spellers which 25% more than we have ever seen in the past. Sign-ups for volunteers are here.
