After two years of searching for an appropriate project to serve as the club's 100th Anniversary Project, it was announced at the April 8th
club meeting that the Board of Directors had selected the Cherry Blossom Trail in Denison Park. Similar to this picture of the Cherry
Blossom Trail in Toronto, this project is part of the City of Corning Parks Strategy Plan and will be named the Rotary Cherry Blossom Trail.
The trail will run from Market Street Extension to the circle by the entry arch on Park Avenue. Cherry trees as well as several kinds of flowering bushes will be planted along this walkway. Partners in this project include the City of Corning, Rotary Club Sustaining Fund, Corning Enterprises, the Disc Golfers and the Corning Parks Foundation. Work will begin as soon as all approvals are received.
In making this choice, consideration was given to what the value to the city would be, formation of community partnerships, participation of the City of Corning, future sustainability and the availability of opportunities for Rotary volunteers both now and in the future.
