Club Meeting 7-28-22
The club met for lunch at noon at First Presbyterian Church.  President Stu called the meeting to order at 12:10 pm with the ringing of the Rotary bell.  This was followed by the singing of My Country ‘Tis of Thee and recitation of the pledge of allegiance.   Bill Boland gave the poetic invocation and with a little technical delay, Stu recited the Four-Way Test.

Club Service: Bill Boland served as photographer and Ernie Danforth was the Cogs editor.

Guests: 2 guests --  Eddie Jiang and Louis Faratella this year’s RYLA students.

Announcements:
  • Polio has returned to the United States, more specifically to Rockland County, New York where an unvaccinated person has contracted polio.  If you want to make a donation to Polio Plus, click here to donate.
  • Rick Davis reported that over $18,000 was raised for Camp Star at golf tournament last Monday.
    • Jan noted that we can also help Camp Star by working the Information Booth at NASCAR at the Glen August 19-21st.  Click here for list of signup times, then you email Bridgette Stewart  goodb0322@aim.com to signup for a work session.
    • Camp Star night is scheduled for Monday, August 15th.  6:30-8:30 old Watson Homestead - We will be handing out cookies and there will be a DJ to get kids involved.  Please sign up for that as well through ClubRunner.
  • Stu reminded members that there will be a Board and Committee Chair retreat on Saturday Aug 20th. We are still in need of some committee chairs; in particular, Community Service and Club Service.  If you have any interest at all talk to Stu or any Board member.
  • Jan also noted that we still need four more volunteers to usher at the Endless Mountain Pops Concert at the skating rink downtown.  Dick Perry volunteered provided he does not have to stand too long. The rest of us can sign up through ClubRunner.
  • Bill Boland noted that Holiday Evening with Rotary project received a boost this week as Wendy Griffin has signed on to help us organize the show. She will sign up high school students to do the show, will work up the rehearsal schedule and get us organized. The evening is scheduled for Dec 10th at 171 Cedar Arts Center.  Community Engagement will meet tomorrow to work through more details. The program will include a magician and a presentation of The Holiday Dating Game, written by our own Mayor Boland.
  • Dick Perry noted that our own Sam Sanfratello is struggling with his leukemia.  Keep him in your thoughts and prayers
  • RYLA students Eddie Jiang and Louis Faratella spoke to the group about their experiences with the event.  Eddie believed it was a life changing experience and Louis concurred.   Listening to them [see Zoom recording link below] would be worth your time.   Well done guys!  Thank you!

Program: Deacon Ray introduced our speaker, Colleen Banik of the Steuben Prevention Coalition. She presented the Assessment Survey Results – reports on the results of a survey conducted with Steuben County students with respect to substance abuse. Make sure you watch her presentation if you missed the meeting -- it was very informative.  Zoom recording for the presentation.
