Next Club Meeting: September 16th Zoom Program: Club Presentation and Discussion: TBD 9-9-21 Zoom Club Meeting [recording] Jeff Ugoretz opened the meeting at 12:05 p.m. with the ringing of a (virtual) bell; the recorded singing (by Lee Greenwood) of “My country ‘tis of Thee”; the Pledge of Allegiance; the 4 Way Test; and an invocation by Gerry Wolfe. - Preśident Jeff Ugoretz welcomed everyone back to our firśt live meeting in a while, and thanked Andy Rochester for arranging the audio system and live streaming, along with Jan Harvey for negotiating with the DoubleTree (formerly Radisson) Hotel.
- Jeff reported that our Board of Directors meeting was this past Monday. The Board decided that we will require masks at in-person meetings. The Board alśo approved $3,000 for Rotary Cherry Blossom Trail Rotary Planting Day, and a request from the Literacy Committee of $2,300 for the Winfield Elementary Rotary Read program and $3,000 for Severn Elementary. Note that the Board'ś proposed revisions to the Club bylaw will be voted on at the October 14 regular Rotary meeting. A preview of the change will be presented at the Sept. 30 regular meeting. The Board will begin meeting 2 times a month starting Oct. 1.
- This week was our first in-person meeting at the former Radisson. Please use the link provided on our Rotary Home Page ASAP, as the selections need to be made a week ahead of time; however, they are giving us some leeway this time. Please ask Andy if you have any issues with this and he will make sure you get the meal you want and you can pay next Thursday. Postcards are on their way out to members in an attempt to make sure all our members know. Please be patient with this new process as well as the proposed attempt to do a hybrid meeting via Zoom. Also, Jan is requesting feedback in regards to next week’s meals so we can continue to improve the process. Andy has included a lunch choice if you want to attend but not order food. The online ordering system [labelled PayPal] lets you use your Visa/Mastercard. How-to. If you order through Andy, please bring cash to pay for your meal.
- September 23 5:30 pm: dinner meeting at the DoubleTree [formerly Radisson] with visit from District Governor, Janet Terrero. Menu is "Chef's choice" [similar to our previous weekly fare]. Respond a week before the dinner by ordering HERE.
- Shepard’s Table was a success due to the efforts of a number of Rotarians including: Dale Wexell, Wendy and Pete Winnett, Francis LaLomia, Dick & Marilyn Puccio, Ernie Danforth, Jeff Ugoretz and Stephen & Andy Rochester.
- Unfortunately, the event honoring Mary Lu Walker for 9/10/21 at the Library has been canceled due to a rise in COVID cases. But there will be a mini-concert Friday, September 10 at 5:30 pm at Centerway Square. More on Mary Lu Walker.
- The Tri-County First Responder’s Park dedication ceremony will take place on 9/11 at 11:00 am in the Gang Mills location and all are invited. The park will be dedicated to our own Father Lew Brown. Contact Don Creath for details. Thanks to Don for all his efforts!
- Stu: started planting at Calvin Smith Elementary community garden last Saturday. Great news!
- John Sirianni just had foot surgery to remove bone spurs. The expected recovery time is 8 weeks.
- If you haven't paid your dues - pay them! Or contact Ernie to make other arrangements.
- Andy Rochester will participate in a run for Bampa' House, and another run for other upstate hospice homes. Andy's getting the word out about making sure people are checking in with their health care team about their health. Specifically he's addressing Prostate Cancer this month. Two local organizations provide free hospice care that is underwritten by volunteer donations and organizations like Rotary. Bampa's House 5k and the Keuka Comfort Home "Life is a Journey" are two events that support these efforts. After Bampa's House run, Saturday, Andy starts the Keuka virtual run - which lasts for two months. Earlier this year, he ran the 2021 mile full year NY3 Charity Run and is still running [3000+ miles]. You can help by donating to Bampa's House or Keuka Comfort Home. One last stat: 5100+ miles in the three NYS charity runs puts Andy in 4th place overall]. Aerobic exercise is very helpful for some cancer patients in survivability, attaining remission/cure and decreasing recurrence. Even mild exercise can make a big difference. Andy's extremes are because of his previous Stage IV situation.
- September 22, 4-6 pm in Denison Park, by entrance near old Spencer's Restaurant is Rotary Cherry Blossom Trail Planting Event. We have three Rotary planting teams that will participate. There will also be Cherry themed refreshments. Bill, Andy & Laura are working on invites to the community.
