Program for next week (September 8th): Jen Mullen - fire department project. The Club convened for its usual Thursday noon meeting in the basement of the First Pres Church in Corning, and on Zoom. President Stu Sammis led us in a rousing rendition of "America (My Country, Tis of Thee)", followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the Rotary Four-Way Test. Gerry Wolfe gave the invocation, a prayer of thanks that evoked the aforementioned Four-Way Test. Club Service: Gerry Wolfe gave the invocation. Dick Perry captured the photos. - President Stu announced that Rich Fastiggi underwent planned open heart surgery earlier this week. Rich, get well soon!
- Dave Anderson gave an update on Sam Sanfratello, who has been receiving cancer treatments in Rochester. Dave relayed the positive news that Sam is on his way home, and will receive further treatment in Corning.
- Stu sent a thank you to Assemblyman (and former Corning Rotarian) Phil Palmesano for his resolution in honor of our Club's 100th anniversary.
- John Brown and Dr. Bob Cole gave an update on in-person meetings. The hard-working committee has considered 7 possible locations. Currently, the most promising option is a venue known as the Center, located at 400 Park Avenue in S. Corning. To make this work financially for members and the Club, we will need to have roughly 40 members attend each week. The committee has presented a proposal to the Board, which will be considered at the September meeting. The hope is to test out this venue beginning in October. Thank you to the committee for your efforts!
  - Speaking of Board meetings, the next one will be held this coming Tuesday, September 6th, at 6 pm. All members are welcome to attend. Simply log in to Zoom using our regular meeting link.
- The Wineglass Marathon is coming up on October 2nd. Rotarians can volunteer to help set up the course through town at 0-Dark-30. Look for details and a sign-up sheet on Clubrunner in the very near future. Andy Rochester shared the exciting news that this year we are using some new technology— "What 3 Words"—to help with location finding.
 - Wendy Winnett announced our Ukrainian exchange student will arrive this Saturday, Sept. 3. The Dupree family are serving as hosts. This year's exchange will be unlike any we've experienced before, with its own set of challenges as we host a student refugee who has escaped the conflict in Ukraine and most recently spent time in Poland. Many thanks to our Club's Youth Exchange Chair, David Kartzman and Wendy (who is serving as the Club's Exchange Counselor) for all their hard work on this effort!
Good News Bucks: - Venu Paidi is back! He shared the news that he has purchased the former location of the Fun Park, and will redevelop the property as an Indian temple and concert hall. Venu hopes this will serve as a place for people of our community to meet and greet each other. Perhaps we can host a future Rotary gathering there? What a great addition to the community!
- Attorney Bob Cole announced he and wife Maria McKee celebrated their 40th anniversary.
- Wendy Winnett announced that she and Pete celebrated their 41st anniversary, and enjoyed a trip out west.
- Stu and Barb Sammis are celebrating their 42nd anniversary this coming Tuesday. Stu also announced that Barb intends to retire at the end of this school year.
- Andy Rochester and his wife Karen are also celebrating 44 years of blissful marriage.
- Paul Tick has not one, but two books coming out on Amazon. The prolific author also reported that his recovery from knee surgery is going well, and he has begun walking on the bionic joint.
- Jen Batzing announced that Hawk Nation is back—all CPP District staff returned to school for their first conference day today!
