WELCOME: President Stu Sammis convened the Oct. 27, 2022 meeting at the First Presbyterian Church, 1 E. First Street, Corning, NY 14830. At Stu’s request Ernie Danforth led the Club in “My Country ‘Tis of Thee”, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the 4-Way Test. Stu suggested that it would be nice if members learned the 4-Way Test by heart. There were at least 18 members at the meeting in-person, plus at least 12 members participating by ZOOM.

GUESTS AND VISITING ROTARIANSJohn Wahlig introduced Marisa Thomas, the general manager of the Hilton Double Tree hotel as his guest.

PROGRAM

Paula Smith introduced Art Cohn to talk about his Seneca Lake Underwater Exploration accomplishments. Art related that he discovered a sunken canal boat in Lake Champlain in 1980, which led him to undertake the creation of an inventory of over 300 shipwrecks in Lake Champlain and Seneca Lake. Art travels to the sites of shipwrecks and has spoken to local communities concerning the history and archeology of the sunken boats. Art demonstrated how in 1868 it was possible to travel by canal boat over lakes, canals and streams from Brooklyn, NY to Corning, NY. A video of the presentation can be found at: full presentation/ just the presentation.
